"...Huge thanks to npower..."
Huge thanks to npower who have given us 4 pairs of
tickets to see Posh take on Oldham in League 1 action this Saturday 11th
September. If you'd like to be one of the lucky people to win a pair of these
tickets then.....you're too late - this competition has now closed and the
winners have been selected. Be faster next time :)
"...finally been beaten by a goal that
never should have been allowed."
PUSFC headed over to compete in the Stanley Heames Cup which
was being held in Coventry to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. With a squad
of just eleven players on the day we were perhaps expecting the worst, but
having started with a 1-1 draw against Nott County we then went from
strength-to-strength beating Bury 1-0 and Burnley 5-1 in the group stages.
Burton were next up in the semi-final and we put on another great performance
to emerge with a 3-0 victory, setting up a final against a very useful looking
Leyton Orient side. The miracle wasn't quite to be though as we lost 1-0 to a
hotly disputed first-half goal. The ball was clearly out of play in the
build-up, but the Orient player knocked it back in and then ran on to score. We
were gutted - well over two hours of football and we'd finally been beaten by a
goal that never should have been allowed. To be fair to Orient they were
clearly the better side and Brendo had a blinder keeping it to one, but without
that goal we'd have forced them to pens and who knows what would have happened
then.
"...Tom Killingsworth bagged himself a
hat-trick..."
Huge thanks to Richard for bringing his lads over to us for
the first game of the season. As always this was a great game, played out in
the perfect IFA spirit. Tom Killingsworth bagged himself a hat-trick with Leigh
Porter, Stephen White, and Jon Connor picking up the other Posh goals. We look
foward to returning the fixture later on in the campaign, and with them all the
best for the rest of the season!
"...in the top 16 in the world..."
PUSFC returned to Leeds to compete in WorldNET for the
fourth time, and once again enjoyed a fantastic weekend of football. We started
slowly with a 0-1 defeat to Dumbarton, but soon recovered with a 4-0 win over
Kidderminster, and a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Dunfermline. Inbetween, we
managed a 2-1 friendly win over AFC Wimbledon, and a 0-4 friendly defeat to
Hull. Safely through to the cup knockout stages, we then progressed beating
Exeter 1-0, then Crewe Alexandra 1-0, before finally slipping out 0-1 to
Gillingham in the quarter finals. That kind of officially puts us in the top 16
in the world, so not a bad weekend all in and we'll be back for WorldNET
2011!
"...successfully defended our
title..."
One big round-up for a load of games that got lost in the
sea of time at the back end of the season. There are quite a few actually, so
I'm just going to list 'em: We lost 1-2 to Cambridge (doh), we drew 3-3 (again)
with Histon, we beat Leicester 6-1, and we lost 1-4 to West Ham. We also
successfully defended our title at the Bill Harvey Memorial Tournament played
on London Road, and gained revenge on the Free Kicks boys with a 13-1 win in
our annual charity clash.
"...a draw perhaps the right result at
the end..."
Cheers to Matt and his lads for the game on Saturday morning
- a pretty close match with a draw perhaps the right result at the end of the
day (though it could easily have been 2-2 with both sides missing easy chances
within a minute of each other). We had the better of the first half and took
the lead via a deflected Ash Garford effort, they had the better of the second.
We had 11 men, they had well over 20 and changed virtually the entire team
during the break - massive kudos to them for having enough interested lads to
be able to do that! Given the afternoon result, this could even be a fixture we
can repeat next season as well. I'd like that - a good bunch of lads.
"...we soon found our rhythm..."
PUSFC finally returned to action after an enforced winter
break with a friendly against local side Ryhall Utd. Things didn't start well
and we were 0-1 down early on, but we soon found our rhythm and thanks to Ash
Garford (2), Nick 'Mr Gay UK'
Jackson (2), Josh Smith, and Rob Birley we eventually ran out 6-4 winners.
Back in league action next week against Watford.
"Yes, yes I know it's been a
while..."
Yes, yes I know it's been a while, but I'm here with an
update now so you can stop sending the emails Bucks! Since I last posted we've
been hammered at home by Barnsley (1-8), grabbed a win against Newcastle away
(2-3), and snatched a draw from the jaws of victory against Histon (3-3). We've
also lost about 1,000 potential fixtures to a combination of the big freeze,
the big thaw, and the big ambivalence. In other news, Webby is handling
WorldNET this year, so if you want to be there taking part please let him know
asap as places are going fast.
"Craig Buckley scored a
hat-trick..."
Our good start to the season continued with a comfortable
win over Reading. Craig Buckley scored a hat-trick, with Nick Jackson and Ash
Garford chipping in with the other two goals. Full credit to the Reading lads
who kept going right to the end on a pretty big Bushfield pitch - and we look
forward to returning the fixture against them later on in the season. That's
only two goals conceded in three matches so far - are we in danger of
accidentally becoming a 'solid defensive unit'? Not really, not with 'The
Giraffe' in the side anyway ;-)
"...we did play very well and the pick
of the goals was from debutant Gilbert Mensah..."
Many thanks to Richard and his lads for another highly
enjoyable game. While the final 6-0 scoreline was perhaps a touch harsh on
Cambridge, we did play very well and the pick of the goals was from debutant
Gilbert Mensah who scored after a mazy dribble (which started 10 yards further
away from goal every time you ask him about it ;-). Only sour note from the day
was when Leigh collided accidentally with the Cambridge keeper and gave his
ankle a nasty looking twist - hope that feels better soon Leigh. As always, we
look forward to hosting the Cambridge lads later on in the season.
"A draw was perhaps the righ
result..."
PUSFC kicked off the 2009-10 IFA season with a hard earned
draw against ASC Ilkeston. A draw was perhaps the righ result as Ilkeston had
the better of the first half (stealing a 1-0 lead in the process), with us
coming on strong in the second. Bucks will perhaps remember his open-goal miss
for a while (we'll not let him forget anyway), but on the flip-side I'm sure
Callum will remember his well-taken equalizer for just as long. We're off and
running!
"...we progressed all the way to the
quarter finals..."
PUSFC returned to Leeds to compete in WorldNET for the
third time, and once again enjoyed a fantastic weekend of football. A solid set
of results in the group stages (0-2 loss to Arsenal Nigeria, 0-0 draw with
eventual winners West Brom, and 1-0 win over Fulham), saw us through to Sunday
where we progressed all the way to the quarter finals via a 3-2 Golden Goal win
over Kidderminster, and a 2-1 Golden Goal win over Portsmouth. Our luck ran out
there though, as we once agan went out to those lads from RC Lens. Inbetween
all that, we also found time to squeeze in friendly matches with Sheffeld Utd
(lost 1-3), West Ham (won 1-0), and Livingston (won 1-0). We'll be back for
WorldNET 2010, and we might even take a BBQ! |
